MARINA WAY
Discover Marina Way, the Boating Hub of the Potomac!  Boasting eight marinas, a brewery, three restaurants and two lodging properties— Marina Way is a vibrant hub for pleasure boaters mooring in Monroe Bay, just off the Potomac River. 

HERITAGE & HISTORY

  • James Monroe Birthplace and Boyhood Home: Visit the humble historical site commemorating the fifth U.S. president.

  • George Washington Birthplace National Monument: Tour the reconstructed homestead and wander the hiking trails at the site of our first president's birth.

  • Stratford Hall: Explore the ancestral home of the Lee family, an 18th-century plantation boasting sweeping views of the Potomac River.

  • Belle Grove Plantation - James Madison's Birthplace:  Walk the grounds where President Madison drew his first breath, and where his mother, Eleanor Rose “Nelly” Conway Madison, was born, grew up and returned to have her son. 

NATURE & OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

  • Westmoreland State Park: A 1,300-acre park featuring river beaches, fossil hunting at Fossil Beach, stunning views from Horsehead Cliffs, and boat rentals.

  • Caledon State Park: Located along the Potomac, this park is famous for its old-growth forests and is a summer home to one of the largest concentrations of American bald eagles on the East Coast. [1]

  • Voorhees Nature Preserve: A serene 731-acre natural sanctuary offering peaceful, wooded hiking trails.

FOOD, DRINK & FAMILY FUN

  • Ingleside Vineyards:  One of Virginia’s oldest and largest wineries,  producing over 18 types of wine from its estate-grown grapes. For over thirty-five years, their hand-crafted wines have won numerous awards and top honors in state, national and international wine competitions.

  • Gardening Gays: We sell fresh cut flowers and plants, locally grown seasonal produce, free-range eggs, pasture-raised chicken and turkeys, and bunnies. We operate our farmstand year-round, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and by appointment.

  • Monroe Bay Winery:  A waterfront property on part of the James Monroe Birthplace Farm land. Monroe Bay Winery features a Tasting Room located in a large strawbale barn made of stained glass wine bottle walls.  The small farm winery and cidery is located just outside of Colonial Beach.
